The servant who had received the five talents came and presented five more. ‘Master,’ he said, ‘you entrusted me with five talents. See, I have gained five more.’

Jesus tells this parable to his disciples on the Mount of Olives as he answers their question about the end of the age. A talent was a large weight of silver or gold, not a natural ability, so the master entrusts substantial wealth to each servant.
