Matthew 27:30 meaning and explanation
Then they spit on Him and took the staff and struck Him on the head repeatedly.
Matthew 27:30, Berean Standard Bible
Explanation preview
These are the governor's soldiers in the Praetorium, having just dressed Jesus in a scarlet robe and pressed a crown of thorns on His head in mock homage to a king. Spitting was a deliberate insult in that culture, and the staff they had placed in His hand as a royal scepter becomes the weapon they beat Him with.
