Rejoice and be glad, because great is your reward in heaven; for in the same way they persecuted the prophets before you.

Jesus is speaking to His disciples on the mountain, continuing the Beatitudes He has just pronounced. Having named those persecuted for righteousness as blessed, He now addresses them directly: when insult and false accusation come because of Him, they should rejoice rather than despair.
