Matthew 8:19 meaning and explanation
And one of the scribes came to Him and said, “Teacher, I will follow You wherever You go.”
Matthew 8:19, Berean Standard Bible
Explanation preview
A scribe was a trained interpreter of the law, so his offer to follow Jesus wherever he went was striking, since scribes usually aligned with established religious authority. He addresses Jesus respectfully as Teacher and volunteers without being called, unlike the disciples Jesus summoned earlier in this Gospel.
