Matthew 9:16 meaning and explanation
No one sews a patch of unshrunk cloth on an old garment. For the patch will pull away from the garment, and a worse tear will result.

Jesus is answering a question from John the Baptist's disciples about why His own disciples do not fast while John's and the Pharisees' do. He has just compared His presence to a bridegroom at a wedding, a time for joy rather than mourning.
