Nehemiah 6:11 meaning and explanation
But I replied, “Should a man like me run away? Should one like me go into the temple to save his own life? I will not go!”
Nehemiah 6:11, Berean Standard Bible
Explanation preview
Nehemiah is speaking to Shemaiah, who has urged him to hide inside the temple because assassins are supposedly coming by night. Nehemiah is the governor, and a man in his position fleeing into the sanctuary would look like cowardice and would also violate the holiness of the temple, which was not a refuge for someone avoiding duty.
