Numbers 2:17 meaning and explanation

In the middle of the camps, the Tent of Meeting is to travel with the camp of the Levites. They are to set out in the order they encamped, each in his own place under his standard.

Numbers 2:17, Berean Standard Bible

Explanation preview

The LORD has just arranged Israel's camp around the Tent of Meeting, three tribes on each side, with the Levites camped closest to the sanctuary. Here the Tent of Meeting travels in the middle of the marching order, carried by the Levites, so the LORD's presence stays at the center of the people rather than trailing behind or leading far ahead.
