Numbers 3:28 meaning and explanation
The number of all the males a month old or more was 8,600. They were responsible for the duties of the sanctuary.

This verse comes from the census of the Levites in the wilderness of Sinai, when God set that tribe apart to serve the tabernacle instead of the firstborn of every family. The 8,600 are the Kohathite clans counted from a month old and up, and their charge was the most sacred furniture: the ark, the table, the lampstand and the altars.
