Numbers 4:27 meaning and explanation
All the service of the Gershonites—all their transport duties and other work—is to be done at the direction of Aaron and his sons; you are to assign to them all that they are responsible to carry.

The LORD is instructing Moses and Aaron about how the Levite clans are to move the tabernacle through the wilderness. The Gershonites carried the curtains, coverings, ropes and courtyard hangings, but verse 27 says their work was not self-directed.
