Psalms 140:6 meaning and explanation

I say to the LORD, “You are my God.” Hear, O LORD, my cry for help.

Psalms 140:6, Berean Standard Bible

Explanation preview

Psalm 140 is a prayer of David, surrounded by enemies who plot violence and set traps for him. In verse 6, in the middle of describing their schemes, he turns directly to God with a short, personal confession: "You are my God." The Hebrew word for God here is El, and the doubled address "O GOD the Lord" in the next verse intensifies the plea.
