Psalms 30:5 meaning and explanation

For His anger is fleeting, but His favor lasts a lifetime. Weeping may stay the night, but joy comes in the morning.

Psalms 30:5, Berean Standard Bible

Explanation preview

Psalm 30 is David's song of thanksgiving, traditionally tied to the dedication of the temple, and in it he looks back on a time of serious illness or danger from which God rescued him. Verse 5 draws the lesson from that rescue: God's anger passes quickly, but his favor, the Hebrew ratson, meaning goodwill or acceptance, lasts a lifetime.
