Psalms 52:1 meaning and explanation
For the choirmaster. A Maskil of David. After Doeg the Edomite went to Saul and told him, “David has gone to the house of Ahimelech.” Why do you boast of evil, O mighty man? The loving devotion of God endures all day long.
Psalms 52:1, Berean Standard Bible
Explanation preview
The heading places this psalm in the story of 1 Samuel 21 and 22, when Doeg the Edomite reported to Saul that David had received help from the priest Ahimelech, and Saul's men then killed the priests of Nob. The "mighty man" is addressed with sharp irony: his power rests on boasting and betrayal, not on righteousness.
