Revelation 6:2 meaning and explanation

So I looked and saw a white horse, and its rider held a bow. And he was given a crown, and he rode out to overcome and conquer.

Revelation 6:2, Berean Standard Bible

Explanation preview

Revelation 6:2 comes as the Lamb, Jesus, opens the first of seven seals on the scroll, and one of the four living creatures summons a rider with a thunderous "Come!" John sees a white horse whose rider carries a bow and is given a crown, and he rides out conquering and to conquer. Many readers take the rider as Christ or the gospel going forth; others, noting that the Lamb opens the seal rather than riding, see a conquering power such as war or empire, and Catholic, Orthodox and Protestant interpreters differ here.
