Then the angel took the censer, filled it with fire from the altar, and hurled it to the earth; and there were peals of thunder, and rumblings, and flashes of lightning, and an earthquake.

Explanation preview
Revelation 8:5 comes as the seventh seal is opened and heaven falls silent. An angel has taken a golden censer, offered incense with the prayers of all the saints on the altar before God's throne, and now fills that same censer with fire from the altar and throws it to the earth.
