Romans 15:2 meaning and explanation

Each of us should please his neighbor for his good, to build him up.

Romans 15:2, Berean Standard Bible

Explanation preview

Paul is writing to the believers in Rome, addressing a dispute between those he calls strong and weak in faith over food and holy days. In verse 2 he turns from the strong person's freedom to their responsibility: pleasing a neighbor is not flattery but action aimed at that person's good and upbuilding.
