Romans 15:1 meaning and explanation
We who are strong ought to bear with the shortcomings of the weak and not to please ourselves.
Romans 15:1, Berean Standard Bible
Explanation preview
Paul is writing to the believers in Rome, a church divided between Jewish and Gentile Christians over food and holy days. In verse 1 he addresses "we who are strong," those whose faith allows them freedom in such matters, and calls them to "bear with the shortcomings of the weak." The Greek word for "bear with" is bastazō, meaning to carry or support, as one carries a load.
