Romans 6:19 meaning and explanation

I am speaking in human terms because of the weakness of your flesh. Just as you used to offer the parts of your body in slavery to impurity and to escalating wickedness, so now offer them in slavery to righteousness leading to holiness.

Romans 6:19, Berean Standard Bible

Explanation preview

Paul is writing to the Christians in Rome, answering the objection that grace gives license to sin. In verse 19 he apologizes for his illustration: he uses the everyday picture of slavery, a familiar institution in his world, because their understanding is still limited, literally because of the weakness of their flesh.
