Romans 6:4 meaning and explanation

We were therefore buried with Him through baptism into death, in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, we too may walk in newness of life.

Romans 6:4, Berean Standard Bible

Explanation preview

Paul is answering a charge that grace encourages sin (Romans 6:1). Here he reminds the believers in Rome that baptism is not a mere symbol but a burial with Christ: going under the water pictures sharing His death, and coming up pictures His resurrection.
