1 Corinthians 11:9 meaning and explanation

Neither was man created for woman, but woman for man.

1 Corinthians 11:9, Berean Standard Bible

Explanation preview

Paul writes to the Corinthian church about worship order, and in verse 9 he reaches back to Genesis 2, where the woman is formed from the man and brought to him. His point concerns creation order and purpose, not the lesser worth of women, and verses 11 and 12 immediately balance it: in the Lord neither man nor woman is independent of the other, and everything comes from God.
