And now, little children, remain in Christ, so that when He appears, we may be confident and unashamed before Him at His coming.

John writes as a pastor to a community unsettled by teachers who had left them (verse 19). Having urged them to let the message they first heard remain in them (verse 24), he now calls them tenderly little children and asks them to remain in Christ.
