Explanation preview
This verse gives the narrator's verdict on Ahaziah, who became king of Israel in the seventeenth year of Jehoshaphat and reigned only two years. The formula "he did evil in the sight of the LORD" evaluates him by the paths he followed: those of his father Ahab, his mother Jezebel, and Jeroboam son of Nebat, the first northern king, whose golden calves set Israel's pattern of sin.
