Amos 9:13 meaning and explanation

“Behold, the days are coming,” declares the LORD, “when the plowman will overtake the reaper and the treader of grapes, the sower of seed. The mountains will drip with sweet wine, with which all the hills will flow.

Amos 9:13, Berean Standard Bible

Explanation preview

The LORD speaks through Amos at the close of his book, after oracles of judgment, and promises a coming day of abundance for restored Israel. The images are agricultural and deliberately impossible: the plowman catches up with the reaper, meaning harvest follows so quickly on planting that the seasons overlap, and the grape treader meets the sower of seed.
