Daniel 1:2 meaning and explanation
And the Lord delivered into his hand Jehoiakim king of Judah, along with some of the articles from the house of God. He carried these off to the land of Shinar, to the house of his god, where he put them in the treasury of his god.
Daniel 1:2, Berean Standard Bible
Explanation preview
The narrator reports that Nebuchadnezzar's siege of Jerusalem succeeded because the Lord handed Jehoiakim and the temple articles over to him. The Hebrew word translated Lord here is Adonai, the sovereign master, and the verse insists that Babylon's victory was not a contest between rival deities but the working of Israel's own God.
