Deuteronomy 11:30 meaning and explanation

Are not these mountains across the Jordan, west of the road toward the sunset, in the land of the Canaanites who live in the Arabah opposite Gilgal near the Oak of Moreh?

Deuteronomy 11:30, Berean Standard Bible

Explanation preview

Moses is speaking to the Israelites on the plains of Moab, just east of the Jordan, before they enter Canaan. Having told them to proclaim blessing on Mount Gerizim and curse on Mount Ebal, he now locates those mountains by landmarks his hearers would recognize: across the Jordan, west of the road toward the sunset, in Canaanite territory of the Arabah, opposite Gilgal, near the Oak of Moreh.
