Deuteronomy 16:6 meaning and explanation

You must only offer the Passover sacrifice at the place the LORD your God will choose as a dwelling for His Name. Do this in the evening as the sun sets, at the same time you departed from Egypt.

Deuteronomy 16:6, Berean Standard Bible

Explanation preview

Moses is speaking to the Israelites on the plains of Moab, preparing them to enter the land. Earlier generations had kept Passover at home, but here God ties the sacrifice to the single place where He will cause His Name to dwell, which later tradition identifies with Jerusalem.
