Ecclesiastes 2:24 meaning and explanation
Nothing is better for a man than to eat and drink and enjoy his work. I have also seen that this is from the hand of God.
Ecclesiastes 2:24, Berean Standard Bible
Explanation preview
The speaker is the Teacher, a Jerusalem king who has just surveyed a lifetime of building, planting, acquiring and feasting, and found it all hevel, a Hebrew word for vapor or breath that the BSB renders "futile." After that long disappointment, verse 24 turns a corner. He does not renounce pleasure but names simple eating, drinking and satisfaction in one's work as the best a person can have, and he recognizes this ordinary good as coming "from the hand of God." The joy is not seized but received.
