Exodus 22:14 meaning and explanation
If a man borrows an animal from his neighbor and it is injured or dies while its owner is not present, he must make full restitution.
Exodus 22:14, Berean Standard Bible
Explanation preview
This verse continues the case laws Moses delivers to Israel at Sinai, addressing borrowed animals. Unlike a hired animal or one left for safekeeping, a borrowed animal is used for the borrower's own benefit, so the borrower carries the risk.
