Exodus 33:14 meaning and explanation

And the LORD answered, “My Presence will go with you, and I will give you rest.”

Exodus 33:14, Berean Standard Bible

Explanation preview

After Israel's golden calf sin, God had said he would send an angel but not go with them himself, since a stiff-necked people might be destroyed on the way (33:3). Moses intercedes, and here God reverses that judgment: "My Presence will go with you." The Hebrew word for Presence is panim, meaning face; God promises his own nearness, not a substitute.
