Exodus 5:21 meaning and explanation

“May the LORD look upon you and judge you,” the foremen said, “for you have made us a stench before Pharaoh and his officials; you have placed in their hand a sword to kill us!”

Exodus 5:21, Berean Standard Bible

Explanation preview

These are the Israelite foremen, appointed to supervise brick production, speaking to Moses and Aaron after Pharaoh punished the whole people for asking to worship. The foremen had been beaten and now blamed Moses for making them repulsive to Pharaoh, using the image of a stench, and for handing the Egyptians a pretext to kill them.
