Ezekiel 44 pictures a restored temple and a reordered priesthood. The Levites who had wandered after idols when Israel went astray (verses 10 and 12) are barred from priestly service near God, yet verse 14 gives them real work: they are appointed to keep charge of all the work of the temple, its gates, sacrifices and maintenance.
