Hebrews 1:4 meaning and explanation

So He became as far superior to the angels as the name He has inherited is excellent beyond theirs.

Hebrews 1:4, Berean Standard Bible

Explanation preview

The writer to the Hebrews is preaching to a congregation tempted to drift back to the old covenant, and he argues that the Son outranks every intermediary God used before. Verse 4 draws the conclusion from verses 2 and 3: because the Son is heir of all things and the exact representation of God's nature, He is as far above the angels as His inherited name is above theirs.
