Isaiah 22:2 meaning and explanation

O city of commotion, O town of revelry? Your slain did not die by the sword, nor were they killed in battle.

Isaiah 22:2, Berean Standard Bible

Explanation preview

Isaiah speaks this taunt over Jerusalem, called here the Valley of Vision, as the city celebrates instead of mourning. The slain did not die in battle, so the deaths came from famine, disease or panic during a siege, not from combat.
