Behold, I have created the craftsman who fans the coals into flame and forges a weapon fit for its task; and I have created the destroyer to wreak havoc.

Isaiah 54 comforts Jerusalem after judgment, pictured as a barren, deserted wife whom the LORD will restore. In verse 16 God answers the fear of attack in verses 14 and 15 by claiming the whole chain of events as His own: the craftsman who heats coals and forges a weapon, and the destroyer who brings ruin.
