These words come from God through Jeremiah, and they are addressed to the men of Anathoth, Jeremiah's own hometown, who had threatened to kill him if he kept prophesying (verses 21 and 23). Because they rejected the covenant and plotted against God's messenger, the LORD announces judgment: their young men will fall in battle and their children will die of famine, leaving no remnant.
