Jeremiah 50 is a long oracle against Babylon, the empire that destroyed Jerusalem and carried Judah into exile. In verse 17 the LORD pictures Israel as a scattered flock chased by lions: Assyria devoured him first, then Nebuchadnezzar of Babylon crushed his bones.
