Job 3:10 meaning and explanation

For that night did not shut the doors of the womb to hide the sorrow from my eyes.

Job 3:10, Berean Standard Bible

Explanation preview

Job has just lost his children, wealth and health, and here he speaks his first long lament, cursing the day of his birth rather than God himself. In verse 10 he personifies the night of his conception as a doorkeeper that failed to close the womb, so that sorrow could reach his eyes.
