John 19:38, Berean Standard Bible
Explanation preview
Joseph of Arimathea was a member of the Jewish ruling council, and John tells us he was a disciple of Jesus, though secretly because he feared the Jewish authorities. Now, after the crucifixion, he goes to Pilate and asks for the body, which was a bold and risky request, since crucified bodies were normally left for scavengers.
