Luke 1:4 meaning and explanation
so that you may know the certainty of the things you have been taught.
Luke 1:4, Berean Standard Bible
Explanation preview
Luke opens his Gospel with a formal preface, addressing a patron he calls Theophilus, whose name means "lover of God." After explaining that he has carefully investigated the accounts handed down by eyewitnesses, Luke states his purpose: so that Theophilus may know the certainty of the things he has been taught. The Greek word asphaleia, meaning certainty or firmness, suggests a secure, reliable foundation rather than mere information.
