Peter speaks here as the spokesman for the Twelve, and his words come right after Jesus has said that riches make entering God's kingdom hard and that only God can save. Peter is not boasting so much as asking, in effect, where the disciples stand, since they have indeed left homes, work and family to follow Jesus.
