Jesus ordered them not to tell anyone. But the more He ordered them, the more widely they proclaimed it.

Jesus has just healed a deaf man who could hardly speak, taking him aside privately and sighing as he said “Ephphatha,” that is, “Be opened.” The crowd who brought the man is overwhelmed, and Jesus orders them to stay silent. In Mark’s Gospel this command, sometimes called the messianic secret, keeps appearing: Jesus repeatedly tells people not to publicize his healings, perhaps to prevent misunderstanding of who he is or to control the timing of revelation.
