Matthew 23:34 meaning and explanation
Because of this, I am sending you prophets and wise men and teachers. Some of them you will kill and crucify, and others you will flog in your synagogues and persecute in town after town.
Matthew 23:34, Berean Standard Bible
Explanation preview
Jesus is still addressing the scribes and Pharisees, and here he speaks of himself as the one who sends prophets, wise men and teachers, a role the Old Testament gives to God. The sending continues Israel's long pattern of rejecting God's messengers: some will be killed and crucified, others flogged in synagogues and pursued from town to town.
