Matthew 9:3 meaning and explanation

On seeing this, some of the scribes said to themselves, “This man is blaspheming!”

Matthew 9:3, Berean Standard Bible

Explanation preview

The scribes were trained interpreters of the law, and they are reacting to what Jesus has just said to the paralytic: "your sins are forgiven." In their view, forgiveness belongs to God alone, so a man claiming to pronounce it was insulting God's honor. The Greek word is blasphemeo, to speak profanely or slanderously about God.
