Micah 6:5 meaning and explanation

My people, remember what Balak king of Moab counseled and what Balaam son of Beor answered. Remember your journey from Shittim to Gilgal, so that you may acknowledge the righteousness of the LORD.’”

Micah 6:5, Berean Standard Bible

Explanation preview

In this verse the LORD speaks through the prophet Micah, addressing Israel as a defendant in a covenant lawsuit. God reminds His people of His faithful acts: how Balak king of Moab hired the prophet Balaam to curse Israel, but Balaam instead blessed them (Numbers 22 to 24), and how Israel crossed the Jordan from Shittim to Gilgal into the promised land (Joshua 3 to 4).
