1 Samuel 14:32 meaning and explanation

So they rushed greedily to the plunder, taking sheep, cattle, and calves. They slaughtered them on the ground and ate meat with the blood still in it.

1 Samuel 14:32, Berean Standard Bible

Explanation preview

Israel's troops, faint from Saul's rash oath forbidding food all day, fell on the captured livestock and butchered the animals on the bare ground, eating the meat while the blood was still in it. The Law had long required that blood be drained and not consumed, since blood represents life and belongs to God (Leviticus 17:10-14).
