Daniel 11 presents a long prophetic survey of conflicts between the kings of the South, the Ptolemaic rulers of Egypt, and the North, the Seleucid rulers of Syria. In verse 8 an angel describes a king of the South who defeats his northern rival and carries off plunder, including the gods and precious vessels from northern temples.
