Galatians 4:8 meaning and explanation
Formerly, when you did not know God, you were slaves to those who by nature are not gods.
Galatians 4:8, Berean Standard Bible
Explanation preview
Paul is writing to Gentile believers in Galatia who are being pressured to adopt Jewish law observance. In verse 8 he turns to their past: before the gospel reached them they did not know God, and they served beings that "by nature are not gods," a reference to the pagan deities and elemental powers of their former religion.
