Judges 2:5 meaning and explanation
So they called that place Bochim and offered sacrifices there to the LORD.
Judges 2:5, Berean Standard Bible
Explanation preview
The angel of the LORD has just confronted Israel at Bochim with a lawsuit speech: God kept His covenant, but the people failed to tear down the altars of the land, so the nations will remain as thorns and snares (verses 1 to 3). The people respond with loud weeping, and the narrator notes that they named the place Bochim, from the Hebrew bakah, "to weep." Their sacrifices there express grief and a turn back toward God, though the chapter soon shows how shallow that turn proved.
