Matthew 23:22 meaning and explanation
And he who swears by heaven swears by God’s throne and by the One who sits on it.
Matthew 23:22, Berean Standard Bible
Explanation preview
Jesus is speaking to the crowds and his disciples about the scribes and Pharisees, who taught that some oaths bound a person while others did not. In verse 22 he presses their logic to its conclusion: to swear by heaven is to swear by God's throne and by the One who sits on it, so no oath can be treated as minor.
