Day 165: Psalms 7 - 14

Bible in a year reading for day 165.

Psalms 7

  1. 6 Arise, O LORD, in Your anger; rise up against the fury of my enemies. Awake, my God, and ordain judgment.
  2. 7 Let the assembled peoples gather around You; take Your seat over them on high.
  3. 8 The LORD judges the peoples; vindicate me, O LORD, according to my righteousness and integrity.
  4. 9 Put an end to the evil of the wicked, but establish the righteous, O righteous God who searches hearts and minds.
  5. 10 My shield is with God, who saves the upright in heart.
  6. 11 God is a righteous judge and a God who feels indignation each day.
  7. 12 If one does not repent, God will sharpen His sword; He has bent and strung His bow.
  8. 13 He has prepared His deadly weapons; He ordains His arrows with fire.
  9. 14 Behold, the wicked man travails with evil; he conceives trouble and births falsehood.
  10. 15 He has dug a hole and hollowed it out; he has fallen into a pit of his own making.
  11. 16 His trouble recoils on himself, and his violence falls on his own head.
  12. 17 I will thank the LORD for His righteousness and sing praise to the name of the LORD Most High.

Psalms 8

  1. 1 For the choirmaster. According to Gittith. A Psalm of David. O LORD, our Lord, how majestic is Your name in all the earth! You have set Your glory above the heavens.
  2. 2 From the mouths of children and infants You have ordained praise on account of Your adversaries, to silence the enemy and avenger.
  3. 3 When I behold Your heavens, the work of Your fingers, the moon and the stars, which You have set in place—
  4. 4 what is man that You are mindful of him, or the son of man that You care for him?
  5. 5 You made him a little lower than the angels; You crowned him with glory and honor.
  6. 6 You made him ruler of the works of Your hands; You have placed everything under his feet:
  7. 7 all sheep and oxen, and even the beasts of the field,
  8. 8 the birds of the air and the fish of the sea, all that swim the paths of the seas.
  9. 9 O LORD, our Lord, how majestic is Your name in all the earth!

Psalms 9

  1. 1 For the choirmaster. To the tune of “The Death of the Son.” A Psalm of David. I will give thanks to the LORD with all my heart; I will recount all Your wonders.
  2. 2 I will be glad and rejoice in You; I will sing praise to Your name, O Most High.
  3. 3 When my enemies retreat, they stumble and perish before You.
  4. 4 For You have upheld my just cause; You sit on Your throne judging righteously.
  5. 5 You have rebuked the nations; You have destroyed the wicked; You have erased their name forever and ever.
  6. 6 The enemy has come to eternal ruin, and You have uprooted their cities; the very memory of them has vanished.
  7. 7 But the LORD abides forever; He has established His throne for judgment.
  8. 8 He judges the world with justice; He governs the people with equity.
  9. 9 The LORD is a refuge for the oppressed, a stronghold in times of trouble.
  10. 10 Those who know Your name trust in You, for You, O LORD, have not forsaken those who seek You.
  11. 11 Sing praises to the LORD, who dwells in Zion; proclaim His deeds among the nations.
  12. 12 For the Avenger of bloodshed remembers; He does not ignore the cry of the afflicted.
  13. 13 Be merciful to me, O LORD; see how my enemies afflict me! Lift me up from the gates of death,
  14. 14 that I may declare all Your praises— that within the gates of Daughter Zion I may rejoice in Your salvation.
  15. 15 The nations have fallen into a pit of their making; their feet are caught in the net they have hidden.
  16. 16 The LORD is known by the justice He brings; the wicked are ensnared by the work of their hands. Higgaion Selah
  17. 17 The wicked will return to Sheol— all the nations who forget God.
  18. 18 For the needy will not always be forgotten; nor the hope of the oppressed forever dashed.
  19. 19 Rise up, O LORD, do not let man prevail; let the nations be judged in Your presence.
  20. 20 Lay terror upon them, O LORD; let the nations know they are but men. Selah

Psalms 10

  1. 1 Why, O LORD, do You stand far off? Why do You hide in times of trouble?
  2. 2 In pride the wicked pursue the needy; let them be caught in the schemes they devise.
  3. 3 For the wicked man boasts in the cravings of his heart; he blesses the greedy and reviles the LORD.
  4. 4 In his pride the wicked man does not seek Him; in all his schemes there is no God.
  5. 5 He is secure in his ways at all times; Your lofty judgments are far from him; he sneers at all his foes.
  6. 6 He says to himself, “I will not be moved; from age to age I am free of distress.”
  7. 7 His mouth is full of cursing, deceit, and violence; trouble and malice are under his tongue.
  8. 8 He lies in wait near the villages; in ambush he slays the innocent; his eyes watch in stealth for the helpless.
  9. 9 He lies in wait like a lion in a thicket; he lurks to seize the oppressed; he catches the lowly in his net.
  10. 10 They are crushed and beaten down; the hapless fall prey to his strength.
  11. 11 He says to himself, “God has forgotten; He hides His face and never sees.”
  12. 12 Arise, O LORD! Lift up Your hand, O God! Do not forget the helpless.
  13. 13 Why has the wicked man renounced God? He says to himself, “You will never call me to account.”
  14. 14 But You have regarded trouble and grief; You see to repay it by Your hand. The victim entrusts himself to You; You are the helper of the fatherless.
  15. 15 Break the arm of the wicked and evildoer; call him to account for his wickedness until none is left to be found.
  16. 16 The LORD is King forever and ever; the nations perish from His land.
  17. 17 You have heard, O LORD, the desire of the humble; You will strengthen their hearts. You will incline Your ear,
  18. 18 to vindicate the fatherless and oppressed, that the men of the earth may strike terror no more.

Psalms 11

  1. 1 For the choirmaster. Of David. In the LORD I take refuge. How then can you say to me: “Flee like a bird to your mountain!
  2. 2 For behold, the wicked bend their bows. They set their arrow on the string to shoot from the shadows at the upright in heart.
  3. 3 If the foundations are destroyed, what can the righteous do?”
  4. 4 The LORD is in His holy temple; the LORD is on His heavenly throne. His eyes are watching closely; they examine the sons of men.
  5. 5 The LORD tests the righteous and the wicked; His soul hates the lover of violence.
  6. 6 On the wicked He will rain down fiery coals and sulfur; a scorching wind will be their portion.
  7. 7 For the LORD is righteous; He loves justice. The upright will see His face.

Psalms 12

  1. 1 For the choirmaster. According to Sheminith. A Psalm of David. Help, O LORD, for the godly are no more; the faithful have vanished from among men.
  2. 2 They lie to one another; they speak with flattering lips and a double heart.
  3. 3 May the LORD cut off all flattering lips and every boastful tongue.
  4. 4 They say, “With our tongues we will prevail. We own our lips—who can be our master?”
  5. 5 “For the cause of the oppressed and for the groaning of the needy, I will now arise,” says the LORD. “I will bring safety to him who yearns.”
  6. 6 The words of the LORD are flawless, like silver refined in a furnace, like gold purified sevenfold.
  7. 7 You, O LORD, will keep us; You will forever guard us from this generation.
  8. 8 The wicked wander freely, and vileness is exalted among men.

Psalms 13

  1. 1 For the choirmaster. A Psalm of David. How long, O LORD? Will You forget me forever? How long will You hide Your face from me?
  2. 2 How long must I wrestle in my soul, with sorrow in my heart each day? How long will my enemy dominate me?
  3. 3 Consider me and respond, O LORD my God. Give light to my eyes, lest I sleep in death,
  4. 4 lest my enemy say, “I have overcome him,” and my foes rejoice when I fall.
  5. 5 But I have trusted in Your loving devotion; my heart will rejoice in Your salvation.
  6. 6 I will sing to the LORD, for He has been good to me.

Psalms 14

  1. 1 For the choirmaster. Of David. The fool says in his heart, “There is no God.” They are corrupt; their acts are vile. There is no one who does good.
  2. 2 The LORD looks down from heaven upon the sons of men to see if any understand, if any seek God.
  3. 3 All have turned away, they have together become corrupt; there is no one who does good, not even one.
  4. 4 Will the workers of iniquity never learn? They devour my people like bread; they refuse to call upon the LORD.
  5. 5 There they are, overwhelmed with dread, for God is in the company of the righteous.
