Day 164: Job 41 - Psalms 7

Bible in a year reading for day 164.

Job 41

  1. 28 No arrow can make him flee; slingstones become like chaff to him.
  2. 29 A club is regarded as straw, and he laughs at the sound of the lance.
  3. 30 His undersides are jagged potsherds, spreading out the mud like a threshing sledge.
  4. 31 He makes the depths seethe like a cauldron; he makes the sea like a jar of ointment.
  5. 32 He leaves a glistening wake behind him; one would think the deep had white hair!
  6. 33 Nothing on earth is his equal— a creature devoid of fear!
  7. 34 He looks down on all the haughty; he is king over all the proud.”

Job 42

  1. 1 Then Job replied to the LORD:
  2. 2 “I know that You can do all things and that no plan of Yours can be thwarted.
  3. 3 You asked, ‘Who is this who conceals My counsel without knowledge?’ Surely I spoke of things I did not understand, things too wonderful for me to know.
  4. 4 You said, ‘Listen now, and I will speak. I will question you, and you shall inform Me.’
  5. 5 My ears had heard of You, but now my eyes have seen You.
  6. 6 Therefore I retract my words, and I repent in dust and ashes.”
  7. 7 After the LORD had spoken these words to Job, He said to Eliphaz the Temanite, “My wrath is kindled against you and your two friends. For you have not spoken about Me accurately, as My servant Job has.
  8. 8 So now, take seven bulls and seven rams, go to My servant Job, and sacrifice a burnt offering for yourselves. Then My servant Job will pray for you, for I will accept his prayer and not deal with you according to your folly. For you have not spoken accurately about Me, as My servant Job has.”
  9. 9 So Eliphaz the Temanite, Bildad the Shuhite, and Zophar the Naamathite went and did as the LORD had told them; and the LORD accepted Job’s request.
  10. 10 After Job had prayed for his friends, the LORD restored his prosperity and doubled his former possessions.
  11. 11 All his brothers and sisters and prior acquaintances came and dined with him in his house. They consoled him and comforted him over all the adversity that the LORD had brought upon him. And each one gave him a piece of silver and a gold ring.
  12. 12 So the LORD blessed Job’s latter days more than his first. He owned 14,000 sheep, 6,000 camels, 1,000 yoke of oxen, and 1,000 female donkeys.
  13. 13 And he also had seven sons and three daughters.
  14. 14 He named his first daughter Jemimah, his second Keziah, and his third Keren-happuch.
  15. 15 No women as beautiful as Job’s daughters could be found in all the land, and their father granted them an inheritance among their brothers.
  16. 16 After this, Job lived 140 years and saw his children and their children to the fourth generation.
  17. 17 And so Job died, old and full of years.

Psalms 1

  1. 1 Blessed is the man who does not walk in the counsel of the wicked, or set foot on the path of sinners, or sit in the seat of mockers.
  2. 2 But his delight is in the Law of the LORD, and on His law he meditates day and night.
  3. 3 He is like a tree planted by streams of water, yielding its fruit in season, whose leaf does not wither, and who prospers in all he does.
  4. 4 Not so the wicked! For they are like chaff driven off by the wind.
  5. 5 Therefore the wicked will not stand in the judgment, nor sinners in the assembly of the righteous.
  6. 6 For the LORD guards the path of the righteous, but the way of the wicked will perish.

Psalms 2

  1. 1 Why do the nations rage and the peoples plot in vain?
  2. 2 The kings of the earth take their stand and the rulers gather together, against the LORD and against His Anointed One:
  3. 3 “Let us break Their chains and cast away Their cords.”
  4. 4 The One enthroned in heaven laughs; the Lord taunts them.
  5. 5 Then He rebukes them in His anger, and terrifies them in His fury:
  6. 6 “I have installed My King on Zion, upon My holy mountain.”
  7. 7 I will proclaim the decree spoken to Me by the LORD: “You are My Son; today I have become Your Father.
  8. 8 Ask Me, and I will make the nations Your inheritance, the ends of the earth Your possession.
  9. 9 You will break them with an iron scepter; You will shatter them like pottery.”
  10. 10 Therefore be wise, O kings; be admonished, O judges of the earth.
  11. 11 Serve the LORD with fear, and rejoice with trembling.
  12. 12 Kiss the Son, lest He be angry and you perish in your rebellion, when His wrath ignites in an instant. Blessed are all who take refuge in Him.

Psalms 3

  1. 1 A Psalm of David, when he fled from his son Absalom. O LORD, how my foes have increased! How many rise up against me!
  2. 2 Many say of me, “God will not deliver him.” Selah
  3. 3 But You, O LORD, are a shield around me, my glory, and the One who lifts my head.
  4. 4 To the LORD I cry aloud, and He answers me from His holy mountain. Selah
  5. 5 I lie down and sleep; I wake again, for the LORD sustains me.
  6. 6 I will not fear the myriads set against me on every side.
  7. 7 Arise, O LORD! Save me, O my God! Strike all my enemies on the jaw; break the teeth of the wicked.
  8. 8 Salvation belongs to the LORD; may Your blessing be on Your people. Selah

Psalms 4

  1. 1 For the choirmaster. With stringed instruments. A Psalm of David. Answer me when I call, O God of my righteousness! You have relieved my distress; show me grace and hear my prayer.
  2. 2 How long, O men, will my honor be maligned? How long will you love vanity and seek after lies? Selah
  3. 3 Know that the LORD has set apart the godly for Himself; the LORD hears when I call to Him.
  4. 4 Be angry, yet do not sin; on your bed, search your heart and be still. Selah
  5. 5 Offer the sacrifices of the righteous and trust in the LORD.
  6. 6 Many ask, “Who can show us the good?” Shine the light of Your face upon us, O LORD.
  7. 7 You have filled my heart with more joy than when grain and new wine abound.
  8. 8 I will lie down and sleep in peace, for You alone, O LORD, make me dwell in safety.

Psalms 5

  1. 1 For the choirmaster, to be accompanied by flutes. A Psalm of David. Give ear to my words, O LORD; consider my groaning.
  2. 2 Attend to the sound of my cry, my King and my God, for to You I pray.
  3. 3 In the morning, O LORD, You hear my voice; at daybreak I lay my plea before You and wait in expectation.
  4. 4 For You are not a God who delights in wickedness; no evil can dwell with You.
  5. 5 The boastful cannot stand in Your presence; You hate all workers of iniquity.
  6. 6 You destroy those who tell lies; the LORD abhors the man of bloodshed and deceit.
  7. 7 But I will enter Your house by the abundance of Your loving devotion; in reverence I will bow down toward Your holy temple.
  8. 8 Lead me, O LORD, in Your righteousness because of my enemies; make straight Your way before me.
  9. 9 For not a word they speak can be trusted; destruction lies within them. Their throats are open graves; their tongues practice deceit.
  10. 10 Declare them guilty, O God; let them fall by their own devices. Drive them out for their many transgressions, for they have rebelled against You.
  11. 11 But let all who take refuge in You rejoice; let them ever shout for joy. May You shelter them, that those who love Your name may rejoice in You.
  12. 12 For surely You, O LORD, bless the righteous; You surround them with the shield of Your favor.

Psalms 6

  1. 1 For the choirmaster. With stringed instruments, according to Sheminith. A Psalm of David. O LORD, do not rebuke me in Your anger or discipline me in Your wrath.
  2. 2 Be merciful to me, O LORD, for I am frail; heal me, O LORD, for my bones are in agony.
  3. 3 My soul is deeply distressed. How long, O LORD, how long?
  4. 4 Turn, O LORD, and deliver my soul; save me because of Your loving devotion.
  5. 5 For there is no mention of You in death; who can praise You from Sheol?
  6. 6 I am weary from groaning; all night I flood my bed with weeping and drench my couch with tears.
  7. 7 My eyes fail from grief; they grow dim because of all my foes.
  8. 8 Depart from me, all you workers of iniquity, for the LORD has heard my weeping.
  9. 9 The LORD has heard my cry for mercy; the LORD accepts my prayer.
  10. 10 All my enemies will be ashamed and dismayed; they will turn back in sudden disgrace.

Psalms 7

  1. 1 A Shiggaion of David, which he sang to the LORD concerning the words of Cush, a Benjamite. O LORD my God, I take refuge in You; save me and deliver me from all my pursuers,
  2. 2 or they will shred my soul like a lion and tear me to pieces with no one to rescue me.
  3. 3 O LORD my God, if I have done this, if injustice is on my hands,
  4. 4 if I have rewarded my ally with evil, if I have plundered my foe without cause,
  5. 5 then may my enemy pursue me and overtake me; may he trample me to the ground and leave my honor in the dust. Selah
